The Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad’s Class of 2022 IB results
The Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad’s Class of 2022 completed their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) journey with some commendable successes this year. Online until the final few weeks, the Class of 2022 achieved an average score of 30.6 with a pass rate of 85 per cent. We are thrilled that nine students achieved scores of 38 points and over.
The Aga Khan Academies aim to nurture ethical young leaders who will help create a better and more peaceful world. Towards this end, the Academies implement a dual-language programme to develop linguistic and cultural pluralism. This year, 31 students achieved a bilingual diploma, having completed both Hindi and English language and literature courses. This represents 44 per cent of the students in this cohort and is an achievement well above the global average for this award and the highest percentage the Academy has achieved to date.
Wrapped up within this year’s IB results are many individual stories of courage and fortitude – stories of leadership, self-discipline, service and determination. By facing the challenge of a global pandemic with a sense of purpose and opportunity, the Class of 2022 has allowed the true value of the education we offer to be revealed. Class of 2022 alumna Jacintha Thota, the highest-scoring graduate with an impressive 44 points, will be attending the London School of Economics and Political Science. Reflecting on her time as a student, Jacintha said the values the Academy instilled in her have positively transformed her outlook on the world.
“The Academy has taught me to consider how my passions can make the community a better place,” Jacintha said. “Between classes on global issues and casual conversations with people in the Academy family, my worldview has been infused with a sense of responsibility and empathy. I know these will stay with me for years beyond my time there.”
This year’s results represented many individual successes against the backdrop of global and personal challenges. Especially pleasing were the achievements of students selected through the Academy’s Talent Identification Programme, which provides exceptional young people with an international-standard education and leadership opportunities, regardless of their ability to pay. These students have been in the Academy for at least six years, having been identified through rigorous assessments as talented and capable of handling IB programmes.
One such student, Nasreen Begum, considers the Academy her second home and is appreciative of the nurturing and caring environment she was surrounded by during her time as a student.
“The Academy played an integral part of my life,” Nasreen said. “It has helped me see the world with a deeper and more holistic perspective and has shaped my personality in the best way possible. The comfort and belongingness we receive from people at the Academy are what encourages us to serve our community better.”
The Academy also places a strong focus on the holistic development of its students, the qualities of character they acquire as students and the global perspectives they learn to value. Throughout their time at the Academy, the Class of 2022 have exhibited these qualities and much more with graduates receiving admissions to numerous prestigious universities including, but not limited to, Cornell University, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of California, Berkeley, New York University, the University of Toronto and Boston University among many others. In addition to their remarkable academic achievements, students from the Class of 2022 received over $5 million in university scholarships and financial aid.
We extend our very best wishes to the Class of 2022 and congratulate them on their successes. As they continue their education at universities and colleges around the world, we wish them well, and are confident in their abilities to be homegrown, ethical leaders who will make a positive impact in their communities and home countries.
