AKA Hyderabad turns 10 : A decade in reflection
I was extremely nervous but more excited when I got enrolled in the Academy in 2011. With the communication skills of a rock, I was right to be nervous. It did not take long for me to settle and break out of my shell with a new family of 60 students. I have lived in Hyderabad for the entirety of my school life.
My memory of Junior School is blurry. However, I do remember dressing up for annual Book Week as Queen Nefertiti, mispronouncing her name on stage in front of the entirety of Junior School; running around the sandpit during lunch and recess, and being banned from the playground once I got into Senior School.
I graduated from the PYP by exhibiting my passion for wildlife conversation. I was delving mostly into art and becoming more emphatic about the world around me by asking more question and taking learner profiles seriously.
In Senior School, I grew fond of theatre arts. I took on the role of Cinderella in our theatre festival, and portrayed Starveling of Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” for our summer production. I also cheered for Pandya house in my bright yellow jersey, taking part in interschool sports competitions to contribute to my house. I went on to become my house captain in DP1 and took part in many enrichment activities. I could see that I was slowly developing into a holistic person with a few too many hobbies!
Even as I begin my final year of school, my academic and artistic pursuits keep me motivated to participate in extracurricular activities. With multiple CAS experiences and projects, I have the opportunity to connect with other students that share similar interests. I realize I have the power to influence, listen, care and reflect.
I have been shaped by the Academy. This school has taught me HOW to think, be imaginative, nourish my creativity, and has given me the ability to think critically. I feel immense pride and privilege to be a part of the AKA Hyderabad community for 10 years now.
