Canadian educator and author shares knowledge and expertise
The Academy Senior School’s science department was privileged to host Catrin Brown, guest lecturer and mentor from Pearson College UWC, Victoria.
Catrin spent a week in January 2018 with science faculty and students. She took classes for grade 12 and guided students with writing their mock examinations. She also shared her expertise regarding internal assessments and the Extended Essay for grade 11 students.
An IBO-OCC (International Baccalaureate Organisation Online Curriculum Centre) member, a Diploma Programme workshop leader, senior examiner, content developer and published author of several chemistry textbooks, Catrin’s wide knowledge and experience was evident in her interactions and resource sessions.
“The key to success for any endeavor is collaboration,” remarked Megha, science faculty. “It was an honor to collaborate with the author of books followed by most students for good academic results.”
During her interaction with the science department, she shared common mistakes that students make while answering questions, and demonstrated how teachers could integrate TOK (Theory of Knowledge) within the science curriculum. She did classroom observations and was impressed by the different strategies used by Academy teachers to ensure the student remains focused on the content. Catrin appreciated that the fact that these teachers were also IB examiners greatly added value. We would like to thank Catrin for the books she gifted us, along with her time and knowledge!
