IB Diploma Programme focus day during Showcase Week

13 March 2018

DP focus day of Showcase Week 2018 was Thursday 9th March. As part of the day’s celebrations, The Academy Senior School held their art exhibit, Inside Out, featuring the work of 16 visual arts students. Later in the day, students attended our first ever Indian university fair, attended by seven universities from around the nation.

Inside Out was held at the student lounge and hosted several guests, most notably Hyderabadi sculptor, Mr Shivarama Chary. Shivarama worked with a few presenting students earlier this year and was able to see growth and creativity on display. Among them was Eshwari Ramsali, whose work on the theme of ‘Negative Capability’ earned high praise. Zahra Quadri’s work on ‘The Universe and I’ also captivated visitors. Other works on display explored identity, urbanization and gender. Gauri Nori, liberal arts professor and PhD candidate at the English & Foreign Languages University, said, “Some of the pieces are better than what you see at art galleries. I’m glad I caught it.”

Students of grades 10-12 then attended the Indian university fair at Academy Building. Representatives from universities spoke to Academy students about the benefits of pursuing undergraduate degrees in India. Among the universities present were Indian School of Business & Finance (ISBF), Ashoka University and SRM University. After the presentations, students networked with university representatives.

“I was deeply impressed by the quality of questions the students asked,” said Palak Behl, associate manager of outreach at ISBF, “and the seriousness they possessed to shape their career.”

DP focus day was about seniors getting to present work they had made this year and to plot the years ahead. With just a few months to go before graduation, it was a time for sharing and for introspection.
