International Mother Language Day
On February 21st 2014, the Junior School celebrated “International Mother Language Day”. The theme for this year’s celebration was "Local languages for Global Citizenship: Spotlight on Science".
Prior to the day, students were asked to fill-in thought bubbles in their mother tongues. The day was marked by students experiencing and learning each other's mother languages. They had the opportunity to learn numbers and simple words in Malayalam, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Kutchi and Konkani.
The students were treated to poems and songs in Marathi, Garhwali, Gujarati and Telugu. It was a lively and joyful experience to hear them speaking in a variety of languages.
The day also offered us a window to marvel at the linguistic diversity of India and to celebrate, respect and promote the different languages spoken by members of the school community.
