Introducing Chandreyee Das Gupta - our new English and ToK teacher
A short introduction on who you are, your experience, where you are joining us from.
I took on my first job as a teacher two decades back. It was not an informed choice but rather an impulsive one. But I am so glad I listened to my heart because I fell in love with teaching within days and that feeling has endured all this time. I have taught across Primary, Middle and Senior School across different curricula and have been delivering the IB Diploma Years Programme for the last 10 years. I teach English and Theory of Knowledge. I have spent the last 6 years at the Singapore International School in Mumbai. I enjoy spending time in the classroom with teenagers as they constantly challenge me and help me to stay open-minded. I spend my weekends and holidays experimenting with new recipes, reading and watching crime shows. My family is my most prized gift and we seek to create value together.
What made you want to join the Academy?
I visited a friend at the Academy a few years back and I felt there was a rare magic about the place. The campus arrested my attention and I was immediately entranced by the overwhelming beauty of nature and the easy existence of the students and staff in its protective embrace. Since then I have closely followed news regarding His Highness and the success stories across all the academies, especially the reports of the various endeavours of the AKA students in IB journals. The organisation is anchored in a higher mission of service and value and that is what made me want to join the Academy. I too want to contribute and go on this journey!
Your vision for what you are leading/teaching at the Academy.
I am teaching English and Theory of Knowledge here but I believe that above all I must strive to be a positive role model and display and uphold the values of the Academy, so that my students can echo them too. I would like to use the medium of my subjects and classes to inspire children to lead a life of self-awareness imbued with a sense of mission.
What you are hoping to achieve with your students this academic year?
I believe that teachers are in contact with the most important people on the planet; youth who are future leaders and influencers. Therefore, I would like to use the stories, poems and plays and texts we study in class to become life-long lessons in inspiration for my students. Along with this, I would like for them to become confident learners with high self-esteem who are able to accept success and failure with fortitude.
