Jamboree of Folktales
Roald Dahl is one of the most well-known children's authors. The author stated in one of his most renowned books, Matilda, that "All the reading she had done had given her a view of life that they had never seen." This book continues to motivate me to read. Reading broadens my perspective and provides me with a distinct perspective on life. I can see the world beyond our own little world, when I read. His work demonstrates the importance of reading in one's life. This book is one of the reasons I decided to anchor for this event. Folktales, by definition, celebrate diversity. By experiencing folktales from different cultures I can broaden my view of the world since we can learn valuable information about another culture’s values, beliefs, history, practices and customs. This event was an excellent opportunity to learn about various Asian folktales from throughout the world.
We had a model walk by grade 6 students during the first day of the event. They dressed up as different characters from Asian stories from throughout the world and presented their stories. Ms. Renu Chamarty performed a musical folktale for us. This was an unusual way of comprehending a folktale. All of the students had a great time singing and listening to her!
The grade 8 kids gave folk tale talks on the second day. They discussed the origins and significance of folk tales. One of the groups examined the creepy facts, which is a very interesting topic. Their group won the competition because of their creativity and understanding. Later that day, we held a quiz for the seventh graders, which was the best event of the three days. The audience and 7th graders were timed and asked a variety of questions about Asian folktales. Finally, Ms. Vibha Batra, an author, spoke to us about the various challenges that children experience in school and how they can overcome them. The grade 8 children bombarded her with questions, and we had a great discussion.
This Jamboree had been incredible!
My friend and I were the event's anchors, and we had a great time learning about folktales during the last few days. As bookworms, we selected some fantastic titles and thoroughly enjoyed the book fair. This event would not have been possible without the efforts of Ms. Madhu and Mr. Shakeel. They were constantly available to us and answered our questions at all times!
"If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books." - Roald Dahl
