Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: A Musical by AKA,H Students
The glorious sounds of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music graced the Commons recently as the Senior School Choir performed Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
A kaleidoscope of song, narration, dance, colourful costumes and lighting provided a unique audience experience in front of a delightful backcloth of Egypt.
Moiz Rajwani (grade 9) as Joseph gave a breathtaking performance, and his interpretation of the song ‘Close Every Door to Me’ was especially inspiring.
Faiz Bandeali (grade 10), a pharaoh turned pop star, sang a dramatic ‘I was Wandering along the Banks of the River’ and was greeted with rapturous applause. A talented Saahit Kambham (grade 9) on percussion enhanced the rock group effect with some inspiring improvisation.
Boys and girls of all ages were encouraged to take part – and from these talented ranks many singers emerged: Shirhan Devani as Reuben, Rutvik Surani as Jacob, Iliyan Ajani as the Likely Lad, Arman Virani and Rahaan Khimani as the butler and baker, Amaan Rattansey as Potiphar, Alishah Surani as his wife. The seven-strong group of singing narrators gave memorable performances throughout the show, particularly that of ‘Pharaoh’s Story’; they were ably backed by a team of speaking narrators whose commentary in English and Hindi was well received.
The finale, led by Joseph, closed with the song ‘Any Dream Will Do’. AKA,H added another feather to their cap with performing this wonderful musical.
