Junior School Celebrates Earth Day
The Junior School started the day with Earth Hour, when all the electrical switches were turned OFF. This included all lights, fans and computers.
The students and teachers went to an allotted area behind the Senior School Arts block to plant saplings to commemorate the occasion. Students then sat outside in shady areas to reflect on the different ways we can help save our planet. Oaths were written by each student and staff member and attached to the giant globe displayed in the Junior School foyer.
The Earth Day assembly was held to highlight the difference we can each make to the Earth as individuals. Class 3 students performed a dance to Michael Jackson's “Heal the World” and we watched a short video and a presentation on the origins of Earth Day, which was first held on 22 April 1970.
An art display of students’ original creations made from recycled materials was held outside the main Junior School foyer. These wonderful art projects showed how useful often discarded items can be!
Let us all hope that the stewardship of Our World is actively continued by our AKAH students.
