Junior School Musical Great Hit Again!
The recent Junior School performance of the "Button Box" was a hit with audience and children alike. The rich variety of the music reflected the truly international theme of Grandma’s button collection from around the world. Stories and music from Jamaica, Ireland, China, India, Africa and Australia captivated the audience as they watched their sons and daughters sing and dance energetically and enthusiastically, if not always accurately, to catchy rhythms and tunes from around the world.
Two related families living at either end of Charmina Road told their stories; the sadness of separated sweethearts in WW2, the sweet-toothed Grandpa who just wanted a quiet life eating chocolate, the Chinese fairy tale of the frog king who boasted too much, and the Aborigine tale of the Dreamgod in the sky.
All these stories gave our students plenty of opportunity for reflective thought as they absorbed the full meanings of the stories and sang and danced heartily on the day of the performance.
All members of the Junior School, students and teachers alike contributed to the success of the musical in so many different ways, from designing costumes and preparing props to setting up the stage. The process was as enjoyable as the product!
Well done Junior School – may you continue to enjoy all your musical activities!
