Leadership Day at the Academy
On the 21st of November, Saturday we had Leadership Day at The Aga Khan Academy. It was a slow start for everyone, considering it was a Saturday.
We expected long lectures, studying for our upcoming exams and overall having just another school day, but boy were we wrong? We started out with a fun activity, an activity which turned us into people of a nation. All of a sudden, we weren’t students anymore, we were builders, teachers and doctors of Kay and Jah. We were shocked. ‘Wait. This isn’t just another school day?’ was what was going through all of our minds.
We moved on to collaboration, discussion to find a middle ground for both countries. It took a lot of communication but finally we got it done. Both the countries were learning from each other and were prospering. We celebrated, had an inauguration ceremony for their new motto and their first skyscraper. And towards the end we could all agree, we learned a lot in this activity. We learned how to communicate better, how to organize various types of information.
Second session, we moved onto the Commons to find out what we’d do next. Surely nothing could be better than being leaders of a country? Turns out that was the second time we were wrong that day. We moved on to a presentation by a self- accomplished entrepreneur. We learned about the struggles of life. The challenges that everyone can face in their future. Their rich experience turned out to be an important lesson for us all. We learned not to run from our trials, to stand up and face challenges, to not give up and most important of all, follow our dreams. That was the end of a spectacular day.Overall, we learned, we build bonds, we managed countries. We learned what leading means. We learned about the role that communication plays in our community. And with all that we moved towards lunch, hoping that one day, we’d get to relive this amazing experience. What an awesome Leadership Day it was!
