Meet Elizabeth Eckel : Our new EAL teacher
Elizabeth joins the Aga Khan Academy in Hyderabad as an EAL (English as an additional language) teacher.
With a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Planning from George Mason University in Virginia, USA, she has taught at international schools in South Korea, India and Tanzania. While she comes from the smallest state (Rhode Island) in America, she considers herself a curious person who enjoys exploring other parts of the world and teaching through inquiry. She has been focusing on developing the language skills of the students so that they can be confident and successful in other areas of their academic lives.
She was initially drawn to the Academy because its vision for students is both solid and forward thinking. She found it's dedication to the emotional intelligence of students and encouragement of the responsibilities the students should have for the world they have been born into, were right in line with her own vision for teaching.
This year, she hopes to first provide a positive online environment, where students can feel comfortable taking risks and asking questions. She would then like her students to become strategic in their communication skills, so that they are able to explain their thinking effectively.
