Meet Joanne Gogelescu : Our new Academic Development Coordinator
Joanne joins the Aga Khan Academy in Hyderabad as the Academic Development Coordinator.
Originally from the United Kingdom, she grew up in Nottinghamshire, but has also lived and worked in Romania, Australia, Nigeria, Kenya and the Netherlands. She joins the Academy from the British International School of Timisoara, which is a new endeavour in the west of Romania and looks back at the experience of offering an international education in a school which has grown and prospered even during challenging circumstances as extremely rewarding.
Over the course of her career, she has held many different responsibilities and posts in the United Kingdom and internationally and taught a range of age groups and subjects; with an emphasis on the Humanities and English.
She looks back at the four years spent at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa as one of the highlights of her career. She was fully committed to the vision for education at the Academies and when opportunities arose at the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad, there was no doubt that this was the place where she wanted to continue to develop her career.
As Academic Development Coordinator, she looks forward to a highly collaborative role; working closely with colleagues and students to continue to develop the many elements that make an Aga Khan Academy education unique and which support the Academies in achieving their aim ‘to develop future leaders with the skills and knowledge to support positive development in their societies’.
As for her students during the coming academic year; she want them to work with her to inquire and to develop their thinking skills and creativity and consider how they can contribute to their local and global communities through service.
