Merging arts with the UN development goals
Students from Glendale Academy showcased skills in shadow puppetry, clown, mime and street theatre as part of the IB PYP Cultural Festival on Friday 23rd November. Each form of performance was introduced with a background in its origin and was connected to one of the United Nations Development Goals. Our 10 participating students from grades 1-5 in the Academy Junior School were enthralled with the performances by the Glendale students and they created their own masks representing clowns and puppetry. Glendale hosted three other schools and was welcoming in providing both singing and dancing on arrival, lunch and a gift bag at the end of the day. Our students came back inspired to continue theatre skills in their classrooms.
PYP faculty Nivedita Paul visited Canary The School with 15 students as part of the PYP festival. Nivedita held a workshop on dance at the school for visiting and host students, and our students had an opportunity to perform in front of an audience. The theme of their dance was child trafficking, the effects of pollution and societal welfare."The team work of the students from grade one to five was spectacular!" says Nivedita.
