'Mukoon' travels to Amaravati Theatre Festival
Academy theatre students from grades 7-10 performed the play 'Mukoon' on 24th November in Vijaywada.
The Amaravati Theatre Festival (ATF), a multilingual drama exposition, was held in Vijaywada from 24th to 26th November 2017. ATF aims to promote India’s rich cultural heritage and provides world class entertainment for theatre fans. The festival featured plays of different genres such as “Ghumayi,” “Charandas Chor,” “Mask,” and our very own“Mukoon."
Academy students impressed the audience with drama teacher Chandrasekhar Indla’s original play, Mukoon, based on a short story by prolific South Indian writer Vaikom Mohammad Basheer. Students were well-prepared for the honor as they had been rehearsing for months, under Chandrasekhar’s guidance. Strikingly, our students were the only ones selected to participate in the children’s category for the festival.
Student actor Rida Mawani commented, “When we arrived and got ready with our makeup, props, and costumes, I was a bit nervous. But I had the support of Mr. Chandrasekhar, who cheered us up. As the performance came to an end, we were given awards, which made us all happy.”
Joy Panjwani summed up the experience: “I have performed many times in different plays, but this opportunity was the best in my life.”
Well done, actors!
