Organo Collective inspires Academy students

19 January 2018

70 grade 9 students visited the Organo Collective, an organic farming organisation located in Moinabad, on Saturday 13th January as a follow up to the Times of India workshop conducted late last year at the Academy. Organo India is the country’s first collective urban farming community driven by agriculture and sustainable organic farming. It is established as an exemplar of a “fully functional self-sustainable closed loop ‘rurban’ community business that offers an urban lifestyle with nuances of rural life” (www.organo.co.in).

Our visit there was incredibly inspiring. They took us on a nature walk and told us about lifestyle changes that we can all make that would improve our health and happiness, while improving the region’s food security. We learnt about different types of fertilizers, biogases, native animals and so many new terms which helped us to better understand how we can preserve nature and make the world a beautiful place to live in. The organisation tries to cover facets of the Sustainable Development Goals.

I realised that our modern world has everything in terms of technology, but we are missing something important and that is being surrounded by nature. Life is full of complications and it is sometimes hard to deal with, but just sitting out in the open fresh air in nature makes you feel so much better! Organisations like Organo remind us that it is important to keep making an effort to change our environment for the better. It was magical, I never thought there was a place so close by which was so innovative. If I ever get a chance to leave all my gadgets and technology behind to live like this for a while, I will surely do it!
