Reflection on Camp Vikarabad
I was only two days old in the school and the news of a camp for DP1s floated to my ears adding sweeter flavour to my happiness. Systematic packing was tough, but an amazing camp was waiting for us. New faces greeted us as we boarded the bus. In no time we reached our camp and the excitement began to take shape.
The teachers divided us into groups, separating us from our friends, but it turned out to be beneficial. Blending our creativity, we showed our devotion for our groups by making flags representing diversity, pluralism and unity. A lot of other activities were organised to strengthen multiple skills sets like leadership, coordination, team building, etc. To add more adventure to our already tiring day, games like walking on a rope, zorbing and cargo net climbing were played to bring the diversified population together. We were also given a dilemma to present in the form of a drama, so that we could question our minds with ethical beliefs and perception that varies from one person to another. The day at last came to an end with a wholesome meal and a musical session. Before ending this exhausting and hectic day we all reflected on our day’s learning as we dragged ourselves towards our rooms.
Next day early in the morning everybody hauled themselves to the amphitheatre to practice yoga and laughing exercises to refresh our mind and body. The next activity took us completely by surprise as we were asked to carry our bag pack and trek blindfolded. A leader was chosen to guide the blinded group. But sometimes many of us tripped and stumbled; we understood the significance of faith, trust and small obstacles in life. On our way back we finally managed to get a glimpse of the beautiful arid valley and enjoyed the cool breeze of the forest which is rarely felt in a city. After the afternoon meal, prizes were distributed for the best camper, best group and many other titles. I secured the best participant prize which made me hold my head high with pride. As the camp came to an end, we learnt not only about self-confidence, value of experience, and providing support to each other, but above all we made some great friends. We were successful in creating bonds with different people. Everyone is unique in their own way, but one thing in common that brought us together was the Aga Khan Academy.
