Science Week at the Aga Khan Academy
The Aga Khan Academy’s Science Department organized a week of activities for the occasion of National Science Day, which is celebrated on 28 February by the Ministry of Science and Technology in India.
This celebration included various competitions such as “Extempore Speech” for 11th graders (a competition in which participants prepare a one minute speech on a previously unseen topic), “Act It Out” (a skit competition), and a quiz and poster making competition for the MYP students.
We also organised a visit to the ICRISAT (International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics) in Hyderabad, where under the auspices of IDF (Indian Development Foundation), the distinguished nuclear physicist Dr. A.P. Jayaraman addressed the students and answered their questions about science.
Science Day commemorates the achievements in science of Sir C.V. Raman, India’s last Nobel Prize winner.
Every year a theme is set for the occasion. This year’s theme was “The Future of Science in India”, with particular emphasis on plans to resolve the energy crisis.
