Senior School Sports Meet
“Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.” Dan Gable
The above-mentioned quote drove us all that morning out of our rooms on to the ground with the cloak of a sportsman to battle for victory as the first ever Senior School Sports Meet was about to be inaugurated at The Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad.
The event was to become a long-cherished memory for everyone. It was a moment of ecstasy and anticipation. It was a moment for everyone to share new experiences. It was an event where classrooms were no more the venues, where the pens were no more the weapons for the battle, where the classmates were no more friends but competitors in their desire for success. That was how we prepared for the Sports Day at the Academy for the very first time.
The show began with the kind words of Mr. Ian Kerr, the Head of the Academy who motivated the students to participate with the spirits of sportsmanship. It began with the events for the MYPs which tested the abilities of an athlete and unveiled the qualities of perseverance, commitment and hard work. We discovered new talents and were no less inspired!
Children of different age groups competed against one other. Those who didn’t participate experienced the aroma through their friends who gave their best shot on the field. It was an event that brought the students and teachers together in a way that was unique from the daily classroom setting.
After the races were over, the relay revived the spirits of the crowd. Participants joined last minute for that event. Imagine the excitement when the teachers also joined in! The crowd went wild as they hooted for their favorite teachers. The teachers from each department showcased their skills. The students ran up to the teachers with a hug of triumph.
The cross country race witnessed the involvement of all. The students of the Senior School also participated, creating an exceptional atmosphere of camaraderie. The event taught us the spirits of a healthy sportsmanship. Some new names were added to the list of winners after the event.
The highlight of the day, which got the entire school to the field, was the tug of war. The MYPs went against their teachers and won. When it came to the DPs, the relentless force applied from both sides, to everyone’s amazement, snapped the rope and all tumbled over on the ground. No wonder, laughter swept through the crowd.
Before we knew it, a memory was made. Too hard to be forgotten! Although sweat dripped from our clothes, the smile remained on our faces for the rest of the day, students and teachers.
