Sensational sights at PYP Focus Day
As part of PYP Focus Day, annual 5th grade PYP exhibition was held on Wednesday 7th March at the Junior School library. Presiding over the inauguration at the Commons was Mrs. Aditi Shah, a design professional and a socio-eco entrepreneur for The Rare Earth, and Dr. Graham Ranger, academic director of The Academies Unit.
At the inauguration, attended by students, teachers, parents, and visitors, Academy students performed skits and songs of their own composition. Performances highlighted themes for the exhibition based on collaborative inquiry and sustainable action. After the morning’s activities, parents and visitors poured into Junior School library to see the 5th graders’ projects and presentations.
Installations covered social issues like children’s rights, digital citizenship and gender inequality. Students had spent the better part of two months researching and understanding the issue that they had chosen by reading material online, attending seminars and discussing with their teachers.
Also on Wednesday, Grades 1-5 students enacted their hit play from December, Dragon Days, a drama addressing prejudice in a world taken by social media. Grades 1-4 had their unit celebrations, too, showcasing what they had learnt through projects and presentations for parents, teachers and visitors.
PYP Focus Day was a chance for our young intellects to present their ideas and also a chance for us to marvel at what future generations are capable of. Visitors to various exhibitions left inspired.
