Showcase Week Cultural Fest - a grand success!
The annual Hindi summer production was held on Monday, 5th March at the Academy amphitheatre, kicking off the evening cultural fest series. For this year’s play, MYP drama students performed Habib Tanvir’s iconic play 'Charandas Chor', directed by Chandrasekar Indla.
The play follows the life of a thief as he struggles with concepts of morality and honour. It was performed a second time on Tuesday evening, MYP Focus Day, with a different cast. Attendees lauded Chandrasekar’s light and sound design.
Wednesday saw choir and musical performances for the spring music fest, led by Samuel Mabo and Subhadip Sarkar. The musical performances featured brass, vocals and a tabla recitation. Aftikhar Mominzada and Salman Jumazada of of grade 9 received cheers from the crowd for their cover of ‘See You Again’ from the 'Furious 7' soundtrack. The music fest culminated in all participating students joining in to sing ‘We Are the World’.
Written and directed by admin staff Kamini Menon and MYP faculty Himani Sood, the English play Amma Mia! that took place on Wednesday evening to an enthusiastic audience was an Indian adaptation of the Broadway musical 'Mama Mia!', featuring songs by ABBA and Bappi Lahiri. Gender and family bonds were some of the themes the play touched on. “The response we received from the student body was overwhelmingly positive,” said Kamini, “We look forward to writing another play next year!”
