Showcasing innovation, talent and self-development
The 2018 IB MYP Personal Project Exhibition yet again put on display a fitting showcase of the innovative projects that were undertaken by grade 10 students over the course of the last academic year. The Personal Project is a requirement by the International Baccalaureate that places students who are completing the MYP on a 10-month long path to reflection, self-development and change.
The Academy Student Lounge and the adjoining foyer were transformed into a gallery for the students to present their various projects, ranging from documentaries on globalisation to “all-in-one wooden study chairs”; from fundraising and service projects in various communities to websites on mental health; from hydroelectric rainwater harvesters to art exhibitions on discrimination against women - all these projects showed the diversity of student interests present at the Academy.
When asked what he thought about the 2018 expo, Rithvik Kesani, one of the exhibitors said, “For me, the MYP is about brilliance. The IB Learner Profile is not just words on a blank page. They’re building blocks for the rest of your life. The MYP is about passion and exploration. The MYP is about showing us the path to development.” Another grade 10 student Anushka Martin remarked, “I realized after these ten months that the personal project is not about the products that we create, although my classmates and I have created truly amazing things. The intrinsic value of the MYP Personal Project is the process that the student goes through, the challenges they face and how they persevere in the end.”
A big round of applause and a huge congratulations to each and every one of the grade 10 students who are successful graduates of the vigorous, taxing but extremely rewarding and irreplaceable experience that is the Personal Project. Our entire community here at the Academy is celebrating their achievements!
