Volunteer Programme at Care Hospital
Four students from the Aga Khan Academy were selected for a volunteer programme at Care Hospital in Hyderabad. The programme was intended for students interested in pursuing studies in biochemistry, pharmaceuticals or medicine, and took place every Saturday for a period of four weeks.
Students were given the opportunity to participate in the Wellness Centre, a general health check-up area where they could observe the operations of different departments. They had the occasion to view how tread-mill tests, 2D-Echo, ECG, ultrasound and X-ray technologies are used for diagnosis and evaluation.
According to the students, one of the most exciting parts of the experience was learning how to measure blood pressure and how to perform CPR.
This enriching programme has given students exposure to the reality of a working hospital staff, allowing them to acquire new knowledge through first-hand experiences. The Academy hopes that opportunities like this will be available to other students in the future.
