Workshop on civil society held at the Academy
The Aga Khan University's Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (ISMC) hosted a workshop on civil society on 2–3 March at the Academy.
The workshop consisted of discussions on the challenges faced by civil society in India and was led by panelists from renowned institutes like JNU, IIT Bombay and University of Dhaka. The discussions were followed by question and answer sessions.
Civil society is necessary for a functioning democracy and shows vitality in a nation. The discussions during the workshop looked at civil society from the perspectives of caste, justice and equality, amongst others.
The workshop was chaired by Dr David Taylor, head of educational programmes at ISMC. The first night of the workshop included a symposium and dinner to welcome the dignitaries.
“I am happy with how the workshop proceeded, with the presentation of interesting papers and thought provoking discussions that followed,” said Dr Heewon Kim from the School of Oriental and African Studies, who was one of the speakers at the event.
