World Book Day at the Junior School
World Book Day was celebrated on Tuesday, 23 April 2013. At the Junior School, the event kicked off a week earlier, with the teachers dressed up as book characters. They put on a short skit to entertain the students. The skit brought the most unusual characters together, such as a pirate who kidnapped Little Bo-Peep, and Goldilocks playing with Snow White. There were also some local characters like Tun-Tun Mashi and Chacha Chowdhry. The young audience was captivated and fully hooked on the Book Day celebrations.
A whole week was spent on reading and reading-based activities such as writing a blurb, poetry, role-plays, book swaps and puppet making. The week culminated in students coming dressed up as book characters.
On Tuesday, 23 April, representatives from a local bookseller came to the Academy dressed up as Clifford, the Big Red Dog from the children’s book series, and they spoke about the benefits of reading in each class. The occasion brought the community together in celebrating reading and books.
