Young athletes compete in intraschool swimming competition
The 5th Academy Junior School Swimming Gala was held on Saturday 16th February 2019. The annual intra-school swimming contest gives students of grades 1-5 the chance to test their abilities in a compettive environment. Junior School Principal, Sreelatha Kumar, gave a welcome speech and declared the event open. Grade 2 assistant teacher Laila Narsinghani was the official host for the event.
It was a memorable day with an action packed lineup of swimming events. Our young athletes participated in free style, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and relay races. This swimming gala witnessed some outstanding performances by our young achievers. The medal ceremony was held intermittently throughout the event. Peppy music, an enthusiastic audience and beautiful sunny weather added to the day’s festivities.
The event came to a close with Anna Palmetshofer, grade 4 form tutor, and Paul Duevel, a teaching volunteer, having a fun race with some students. Aiza, grade 3, proudly said, “I enjoyed participating in the swimming gala. I feel so happy to have won. But it’s the participation that matters and not winning.”
We would like to thank the PE team for the overall success of the event, teachers for their support, parents for their unflinching encouragement and students for displaying a genuine spirit of sportsmanship.
