Young creators of the Academy attend art fest

30 March 2018

Ten students of grades 1-4 participated in the Hyderabad Visual Arts Fest on 6th March. The annual festival is a day long workshop on various art forms and is attended by IBPYP students from schools around Hyderabad. This year’s fest was hosted by Glendale Creative Arts Academy (GCAA), Tellapur.

Academy students tried their hand at artforms like pottery and clay modelling under the tutelage of expert potters. Students of the GCAA introduced visiting students to collaging, portrait making, Indian art forms, and other crafts. Sumedha Bandaru of grade 4 learned quilling, an art form where strips of paper are transfigured into 3D shapes. “The students who guided us were very helpful,” she said of the collaborative experience. “I love how it turned out!”

Ashmi Saban of grade 4 learnt how to make masks. “It was a wonderful learning experience for me!” she said. At the end of the session students got certificates and and a goody bag each for their participation.

Students were accompanied by Ms. Mamta, Academy support staff, and Ms Nivedita Badepally, our PYP art facilitator. “I like events of this theme for young creators,” Ms Nivedita observed, “It is about making new friends and learning new techniques or art forms in a different environment.”

Academy students who attended the program proudly shared their new honed skills with their friends at the Junior School morning assembly the next day.
