Meet Ruth Kingston
Originally from the United Kingdom, Ruth Kingston has joined the Aga Khan Academy Maputo as the Head of Residential Life and Pastoral Care. Prior to joining the Academy, Ruth worked in different parts of the world, such as in the UK, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Azerbaijan, all accumulating over 30 years of work experience.
Through her position, Ruth hopes to develop a wonderful and uplifting environment in the Academy’s residences, where all students feel happy, safe and secure. “I also want to develop protocols for students and staff to help their well-being and to bring a holistic approach to students’ education,” Ruth said.
Keeping the Academy’s mission and vision in mind, Ruth aims to encourage students to fully participate in the residential programme. Ruth said this will maximise the students’ understanding of the Aga Khan Curricular Strands, which will lead to their development of the Aga Khan Academies’ Learner Profiles. “The residential programme is the epitome of the Academy’s vision and mission as we are developing lifelong learners in all aspects,” Ruth said.
Ruth said she also greatly enjoys the Academy’s welcoming and friendly environment. “There is a wonderful family feeling on campus where students, teaching staff, admin staff and facility staff are all there for the common good of each individual and to help each other thrive in a positive atmosphere,” Ruth said.
