Message from the Head of Academy regarding school closure
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you may know, the school communities in Maputo and Matola are taking forthright and proactive measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. In response to this, and in order to ensure the continued safety and security of our AKA Maputo school community, we have decided to take the following precautionary measures.
In line with considered best practice the Aga Khan Academy Maputo will be closing at the end of the school day on Wednesday, 18th March . The closure will take effect, in the first instance, until 12th April for residential students and 13th April for day students.
We have arrangements in place to ensure that our students can continue their learning online during the school closure. The school will be in touch regularly to update you on the status of the closure and to help support your children. Information on how to support your child’s learning will also be shared with you before the online programme begins on Monday 23rd March at 8:00 a.m.
We have been guided by the best possible advice and will continue to act in a sensible, thoughtful and calm fashion. We have taken this decision proactively with the knowledge and support of the Aga Khan Development Network, Aga Khan Education Services and the local Education Office has been informed. We will keep you updated and will certainly let you know should a further change of plans be necessary. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, or the Junior School Principal, Maike Silver (maike.silver@agakhanacademies.org) should you have any concerns or questions.
We appreciate that this information has been sent to you at short notice. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause to you and your family. Please be assured that our actions are motivated by what is best for the health and wellbeing of all community members.
Warm regards,
Michael Spencer
Head of Academy
