Our newly opened group in Early Years

Having adjusted well to our school’s routine and curriculum within just a couple of weeks, the Kindergarten 2 (KG2) students have started their unit of Inquiry with a variety of activities related to the transdisciplinary theme 'How we express ourselves'.

The children are learning about different ways to express feelings through arts, and in addition to their school activities, they welcomed two visitors who kindly agreed to share their arts with the KG2 class.

Mr Mauro Brito is a Mozambican writer who has published a book of poetry titled Passos de magia ao sol. The children were happy to interact as Mr Brito read aloud some of his poems, as well as poems by renowned authors such as Mia Couto, and shared illustrations by the late Mozambican painter, Malangatana. The children had fun learning about the process of writing a poem and having a writer come to their class to read them some stories. As Mr Brito said, a poem should "be a continuum and shared from one person to another."

Mrs Albertina Santos is a painter, who has published both books and paintings. She spent quite a bit of time with the children, painting with them in a gentle, interactive manner and talking about the feelings behind the creation of a piece of art.

We are very grateful to these two visitors for taking the time to engage our KG2 class with ways of expressing oneself through the arts and telling a story without needing a pen or a book.

Em poucas semanas, o Pré-2 ajustou-se muito bem à rotina da escola e ao modelo curricular. Iniciaram a Unidade de Investigação com várias actividades relacionadas com o tema transdisciplinar: Como nos Expressamos.

As crianças estão a aprender diferentes maneiras de demonstrar os seus sentimentos através da arte. Para além das actividades normais tiveram dois visitantes que se dispuseram a mostrar o seu trabalho artístico ao mais pequeninos.

O Sr. Mauro Brito é um escritor moçambicano que publicou um livro de poemas intitulado: “Passos de Magia ao Sol”. As crianças gostaram muito de interagir com o Sr. Brito e ouvir a leitura de alguns poemas de autores famosos como Mia Couto. Tiveram também a oportunidade de ver algumas ilustrações do célebre pintor moçambicano Malangatana. As crianças aprenderam sobre o processo de escrever um poema junto do escritor, o Sr. Brito que referiu que um poema deverá “ser um continuum e partilhado de uma pessoa para outra”.

A Sra. Albertina Santos é uma pintora que já publicou alguns livros mas também pinta quadros. Com ela as crianças tiveram a oportunidade de pintar e falar sobre os sentimentos que estão por trás da criação das obras de arte.

Agradecemos a visita destes dois artistas e pelo seu tempo e envolvimento com a turma do Pré-2 na aprendizagem sobre como nos expressamos através da arte e como contar uma história sem recorrer à escrita e ao livro.
