PYP Earth Month assembly
On 29 April 2022, the Aga Khan Academy Maputo’s Junior School students hosted a fun and insightful Earth Month assembly to end off the month of April.
The students started the assembly with a video presentation to show the various highlights the Primary Years Programme (PYP) had during Earth Month. One of the highlights included creating art out of recycled materials with REPENSAR, an environmental non-governmental organisation in Matola that provides environmentally educational services to promote an innovative environmental paradigm.
The video also showed messages from Prince Rahim Aga Khan on the importance of protecting our environment. The KG, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students then held a play and sang songs about how the PYP students are environmental stewards.
The students concluded the assembly with a fashion show, where students from KG up to Grade 5 showed off their costumes made from recycled materials. From robots and astronauts made of old CDs, to ice cream cones and princesses made of cardboard and plastic, the students showed great creativity and environmental consciousness through their costumes!
