On Friday, 1 April 2022, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) students at the Aga Khan Academy Maputo launched Earth Month with a school-wide clean up.
"Throughout the month of April, our students will be taking environmentally sustainable actions to improvement our school surroundings," explained PYP Coordinator Emma Wheatley. "This enables them to make practical connections between their actions, the Aga Khan Curricular Strands and their role as global citizens."
The students worked in house teams to collect recyclable litter around the campus. Then, in groups, they decided on five categories to sort the items and participated in a recycling relay race.
All the items will now be recycled thanks to the AKA Maputo's community connection with Repensar, an NGO that provides environmentally educational services to promote an innovative environmental paradigm. Repensar recently visited the Academy and spoke to the PYP students about ways to take environmentally sustainable action together.
We are so proud of our little environmental stewards!
