Faculty members take part in MYP workshop
A workshop was held at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka from 3-4 October on the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Senior School teachers of the Academy, along with a few teachers from The Aga Khan School, Dhaka, participated in the workshop. The workshop was led by the Academy’s MYP Coordinator Ms Ira Shrivastav.
The workshop aimed to make the participating teachers confident about the IB programme and explore teaching methodologies as per IB philosophies. Different areas of the IB were covered in the workshop, including how the MYP was designed and how it caters for every child regardless of their knowledge level.
The participating teachers joyfully engaged in various exercises but loved one activity the most. Everyone had to come up with questions about an ordinary potato in five minutes. The questions were later connected to the content of the MYP curriculum and used to explain how learning in the MYP works.
“I like how the theory of the MYP curriculum was brought to life and how, as a practitioner, I can apply it to the classroom,” said Lead Learning Support Specialist and Student Guidance Counsellor Ms Maliha Afzal.
Ms Ira was amazed to see the enthusiasm among the teachers and the energy they radiated throughout the sessions while connecting with everyone in the workshop.
“It was amazing to see the enthusiasm and boundless energy the teachers brought with them,” Ms Ira said. “All the teachers were very open-minded and mixed easily with their counterparts.”
