International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission to create a better world through education. IB programmes for students aged 3-19 help develop their intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalising world.

Following in the footsteps of its sister schools in Mombasa, Hyderabad and Maputo, the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka plans to become an IB World School, subject to the necessary authorisations.

Aga Khan Curricular Strands

The Aga Khan Curricular Strands (AK Strands) are a unique part of the programme offered by the Aga Khan Academies. The AK Strands are areas of learning aimed specifically at developing knowledge, skills and attitudes required by future leaders.

Our goal at the Academies is to develop young people who have strong local roots and are also globally minded. They should be able to become leaders in whichever fields they choose.

Our Campus

Built on a 17-acre site near Bashundara, Dhaka, the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka offers state-of-the art facilities on a secure, landscaped campus.

Enrichment Programme

Enrichment programmes enable students to realise their potential in a variety of settings beyond the classroom. Students develop a sense of self-awareness and an understanding of school and community needs and opportunities. They also learn how to apply their gifts and skills to make a positive impact.

At the Academy, we believe in a balanced, rounded, comprehensive school experience. As this includes both academic and co-curricular experiences, we encourage our students to do their best both in and outside the classroom.

Community Service

Community service is a major part of the student experience at the Academy. Both the curriculum and student life incorporate aspects of community service.

Service opportunities extend the educational experience beyond the classroom and help our students learn about the real-world implications of their studies.

Sporting Activities

One of the goals of the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka is to create principled young people with a strong sense of integrity, honesty, fairness and justice, who respect the dignity of others.

Physical education, and competitive games and sports prepare our students for real-life situations, encouraging them to take leadership roles and allowing them to tackle challenges confidently and in a spirit of cooperation.

Teacher Professional Development

Promoting excellence in teaching, both on campus and more broadly, is a fundamental goal of the Aga Khan Academies. Each Academy has a Professional Development Centre, which strengthens the profession of teaching in the region by investing substantially in teachers’ professional development.

About the Academy

The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka is the fourth in the network of Aga Khan Academies established by His Highness the Aga Khan. It follows the highly successful model established by the first Academy, which opened in Mombasa, Kenya in 2003.

The Academies Network

The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka is the fourth in a planned network of Aga Khan Academies being established in countries across Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East.
