Mombasa to Barcelona, and Football
The Under 11 boys football teams had a huge adventure on their trip to Barcelona, Spain where they played in the Barcelona Cup. The tournament ran from July 2-7 with over 1500 players from Asia, Africa, Europe, South and North America. Three matches were played by each team and the B team was awarded the Fair Play Trophy during the finals.
Omar Bayusuf was second highest goal scorer of the tournament with a total of nine goals and Isaac Dudi was one of the outstanding players in the defence line.
One of the aims of the tournament is to combine football with tourism and recreation.
The group visited some of the prime tourist spots in Barcelona city including Sagrada Familia, one of Barcelona’s landmark buildings and Gaudi’s unfinished masterpiece; one of the most visited buildings in the world.
The group had training sessions at the Olympic stadium in Barcelona and a highlight was a tour of Camp Nou, home of one of the greatest football clubs in the world, FC Barcelona. The tour included a visit to their museum to see the trophies the club has won in its more than 100 years of history including the four Champions League trophies.
The group along with 8 teachers and parents were led on the trip by Mr Ndungu and Mr Wafula. They returned very excited by all their amazing experiences out in the big wide world.
